ACTE Thematic Year of Innovation 2009
The future competitiveness of the European textile, clothing, leather and
footwear industries will largely depend on their capacity to incorporate
innovation in the products, processes and business models, including organisation,
marketing and provisioning.
The role of local and regional public authorities is to provide an environment
that is favourable to creativity and innovation and to promote cooperation
with private stakeholders in forms of clusters, knowledge transfer between
the public research and industry and strategic partnerships between business
and universities.
Since 2008 already, innovation is high on the agenda of ACTE. The
2008 Thematic Year featured international conferences in
Lodz (Poland) and Terrassa (Spain) to
disseminate information about good practices in these fields and to help
members find innovative solutions to further common challenges such as the
preservation and re-utilisation of industrial heritage and sustainable urban
development policies.
Besides, the Year saw the constitution of an R&D&I working group aimed at
encouraging knowledge transfer and establishing synergies between the technology
and research centres based in ACTE member territories.
Given the fact that 2009 has been declared "European
Year of Creativity and Innovation", innovation continues being a
priority for ACTE throughout 2009. Conferences in Macerata
(Italy) and Badalona (Spain) on innovation in footwear
and leather territories and on CSR respectively
are amongst the activities.
