Executive Secretary meets EU Commissioner Kuneva

On 16th May, ACTE Executive Secretary Fabio Giovagnoli met in Prato, Italy, European Commissioner of Consumer Protection Meglena Kuneva to present her the ACTE Petition Fashion and Health.
The meeting was organised by the Municipality of Prato (Italy) and was also attended by representatives of the Italian Parliament (Andrea Lulli, former ACTE President); industry, trade unions and consumer organizations, including Valeria Fedeli, President of the ETUF:TCL (European Trade Union Federation: Textile, Clothing, Leather). Mr Giovagnoli addressed the European Commissioner the most important requests included in the ACTE Petition:
  • The necessity to provide a clear definition of “risks arising from textile, clothing, leather, footwear and accessories products;
  • The need to promote the development and the use of technologies suitable for the traceability of TCL products destined for consumption, with particular attention to R&D technologies;
  • The importance of extending to all Member States the creation, update and networking of specific national databases aimed at the collection and monitoring of all chemicals substances used in the production processes of the TCL sectors
After the presentation of the ACTE Petition, Commissioner Kuneva visited Tecnotessile Research Centre (ACTE adherent partner) to gain insight into the most important achievements and results of the EU co-funded R.I.T.M.I project on TCL products traceability.
