Conference on innovation of footwear sector in Macerata

On 28 March, ACTE, in cooperation with the Province of Macerata, organised
the international conference "Crisis and innovation: a possible
pairing? Good practices and perspectives of the footwear sector in Italy
and Europe" in Macerata, Italy. The conference is one of
the activities ACTE is organising in the framework of its Thematic Year
2009 of Innovation.
The opening session of this event was chaired by Daniele Salvi,
deputy of the Province of Macerata and Vice-president ACTE Italy, and
by ACTE President Teo Romero, with the participation
of Valeria Fedeli, President of the European Trade Union
Federation: textiles, clothing, footwear, and Claudio Cappellini
of the European Social and Economic Committee.
During the conference, social partners, representatives of the academia and technology centres, and public administrations presented their proposals for managing the current crisis. Referring to the title of the conference, all speakers agreed that crisis and innovation are not only a possible but a necessary pairing.
The textile-fashion sector is paradigmatic for industrial changes, affected by important restructuring processes since decades, and its future is closely linked with innovation. Furthermore, networking between administrations, businesses and workers is considered as an important tool to defend the knowledge, the production DNA, in our territories.
