The City of Badalona / Reactivació Badalona, ACTE and the Gremi de Indústries de Confecció de Barcelona organised on 9 and 10 July the first edition of Badalona Moda. In the framework of this event, the 1st International Congress on CSR, the "Joaquim Mercader Competition for Young Designers" and a Business Encounter of textile firms and designers took place.

The opening session on 9 July was chaired by Jordi Serra, Mayor of Badalona, with the participation of ACTE President Teo Romero, José Luis Marín, President of the GIC-BCN, Montserrat Torné, Director-general of international cooperation and institutional relations of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and Ignasi Doñate, Director-General of international projection of Catalan organisations of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The speakers of the CSR Congress stressed that textile and fashion businesses with CSR programmes are able to increase their benefits and consolidate markets. Still, the incorporation of CSR not only is a task of enterprises themselves but should also imply public administrations and the sector's main agents.

The meeting gathered some 200 participants and raised issues related to human rights, labour conditions, environment and health.

Amongst the speakers were Steven A. Jesseph, President and CEO of the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production, Willie Beuth, President of the 3p Consortium for Sustainable Management, Anabel Drese, European CSR director of TIMBERLAND, Antonio Barberi Ettaro, Member of the MODINT association, Manel Medina Llinás, Director of esCERT-UPC, and Félix Velasco Álvaro, Consultant and founding member of Forética.

During the first edition of the "Joaquim Mercader Competition for Young Designers", 25 finalist creations were showcased during a catwalk. A jury awarded Kristina Cantero with the Award for creativity and vanguard, Silja Jeshamen-Wehber with the Award for material treatment and Alba Serra and Maria Roch with the Award for commercial viability.

The Business Encounter on 10th July aimed at enhancing the incorporation of design in businesses to increase their competitiveness and avoid relocation of high value added processes. Some 40 designers exposed their works and discussed with entrepreneurs about new tendencies.

Badalona Moda is part of the project "ACTE: a network for innovation" submitted recently by members of ACTE Spain.
