From 22 to 24 February 2010, Barcelona hosted the European Summit of Local Governments, which debated the role of local authorities at European and local level, and the measures necessary for adoption in the current context.

In the framework of this event, on 24th February the decentralised session titled “Future strategies in European textile cities. Reinventing the European industrial DNA” was organised by the City of Igualada and ACTE in Igualada. The session was structured in two round tables and presented some of the innovative policies that are being promoted in the different member territories of ACTE and that allow to anticipate and manage the structural changes of the textile-fashion sector at local and regional level.

The first round table titled “Local and regional responses to the transformation of the sector” presented the support tools the cities of Guimarães (Portugal), Prato (Italy) and Vigo (Spain) are providing in response to the transformation of the sector.

The participants of the second round table “Strategic change in the textile-fashion companies” agreed that the future of the sector in European territories will be closely linked with their innovation capacity.

The event also featured the public presentation of the compilation of good practices "Strategic Reorientation of textile-fashion companies" that analyzes a number of Catalan companies which had overcome the crisis thanks to the incorporation of innovation. This publication is one of the main results of the project "ACTE: a network for innovation" carried out by several members of ACTE Spain throughout 2009.
