The 1st International Contest dedicated to the Innovative Textiles and Design: FUTUROTEXTILES AWARDS

The European Centre of Innovative Textiles (CETI) has launched, on October 2011, the first International Contest dedicated to the Innovative Textiles and the Design.
CETI is an emblematic project of the Competitiveness Pole Up-Tex supported by Lille Métropole, Président of ACTE, which objective is to promote the irruption of textile in all trades to search for new performances. It will be inaugurated on 10th October 2012. Specifically, CETI will become an international research centre, focused on the Advanced Textile Materials and New Flexible Materials and Composites, and it will be specialized in innovation, prototyping and technical valorisation.
During its inauguration there will be organised several events: professional conferences, the exhibition Futurotextiles, the Cetilab dedicated at business and cultural exchanges, and the Futurotextiles Awards.
The Contest is aimed at supporting the textile innovation, in general, and the use of new flexible materials and composites in the urban design and the everyday life. Futurotextiles Awards is an initiative of CETI and Lille design, in collaboration with Lille 3000 and FUTEX, and it will be composed by two different contests:
- The Professional Contest: it is addressed to all the professionals on architecture and industrial or landscape design (freelance, agency or enterprise). The topic of the Contest is to create an urban object made with innovative textiles, and there is foreseen to nominate 10 participants and offer 3 prizes in three different categories to the winners.
- The Student Challenge: addressed to higher education students. In this case the topic is the textile innovation in the field of the technical textiles, by imagining new materials or new applications in the building trade, the health products, car industry, aeronautics, protective clothing or extreme sport, etc… The jury will select 20 participants, and there will be offered 3 prizes.
The deadline to present the design projects is 16th mars 2012, and the prize-giving will be held on 10th October 2012.
This initiative is perfectly aligned with the new strategic goals for ACTE. In particular, with the priority axis of offering support and recognition to the textile industry in Europe with a high added value, and relating them with the creative industries.
