Abstract:

The general objective of the Twintex Project is to promote European textile cities as the centres of change - based on innovation, entrepreneurship and business growth - focusing on the role played by textile museums as drivers for process and product innovation, and stimulating the enforcement of existing networks among local communities, textile museums and economic partners. Project activities have in particular focused on the organisation of a 2 days conference, involving all those European twin towns already having or planning to have textile museums. In this context, the following aspects have been analyzed:
  • Instruments and policies fostering urban transformation in textile towns, within the framework of 2007/2013 EU Structural Funds;
  • Role of textile museums to act as promoters of local identity and to work as archives for historic productive memory, through the valorisation, mapping and networking of textile samples proceeding from textile museums and private companies;
  • Connections among textile museums, textile companies and technological innovation, according to the need of the transition from industrial economy to knowledge economy.
During the conference, the exhibition Towards a European Textile DNA has been organised, with the aim to represent all textile museums of twined towns, and to show the most significant textile products coming from some private companies´ archives.
