Stage 1: Identification of European Textile Heritage
(January – July 2009)

Activities Stage 1: IdentificationAs confirmed in the archives and documentary collections of European textile museums and companies, European textile production has always exploited an imposing repertoire of techniques, decorative patterns and styles, each of which has been strictly linked to its cultural context of reference, yet nevertheless stratified and contaminated by other European sources.
Starting the project, an overall selection, study and cataloguing of textile samples will be made, using textile archives from Prato and Terrassa Museums, and from Guimaraes.
Textile samples catalogue, initially comprising about 150 items from museums sample books, will be then transformed in a digital database - Eurotex ID database - available online, providing specifications and details for items which, in turn, are highly representative of the production reality of their local territories of reference.
