Prato Textile Museum is Italy's largest centre for the study, conservation and exhibition of historic and contemporary textiles. Managed by Prato Textile Museum Foundation Prato, Textile Museum initially opened in 1975 at Tullio Buzzi Technical Institute, although, since May 2003, it has been definitively housed in the converted Campolmi textile mill in the centre of Prato.
Prato Textile Museum is a cultural institution whose mission is to promote the study, enhancement and exploitation of historic and contemporary textiles and all related artistic, industrial and technical aspects of interest. The Museum offers its services not only to the citizens of the city of Prato, but also to tourists, students, scholars and members of the textile industry by whom it is seen as a place of reference for the development of creativity, know-how and personal skills. As far as its educational programmes are concerned, Prato Textile Museum rejects rigid specialization in favour of an integrated approach which enables a wide range of participants to exploit the Museum’s collections.
