The
XVIII ACTE General Assembly was held on 28th May in Guimarães
(Portugal) and chaired by the President of the Assembly, Tomasz Sadzynski,
the ACTE President, Teo Romero, the Executive Secretary Giorgio
Silli, and the Mayor of Guimarães, Antonio Magalhães.
During the Assembly the Activities Report
2009 and the strategic projects for 2010: the touring
exhibition Futurotextiles, the publication of the 20th Anniversary of ACTE
and the creation of a network between the competitions for young designers
organised in ACTE member territories, were adopted.![]()
On
29th May, in the framework of the General Assembly, was organised
a visit to the City of Vigo (Spain) where ACTE members were
received by the Mayor of the city, Abel Caballero, and City
Councillors of Economic Promotion, Santos Hector Rodríguez,
and Economy and Finance, Raquel Díaz. During the visit,
the General Secretary of the Confederation of Textile Industries of Galicia,
Alberto Rocha, presented the interesting experience of TEXVIGO,
a cooperative of businesses formed to create a business park for the textile
sector.![]()
In
the framework of the 2nd Edition of Badalona Moda, organized
by the City of Badalona/Reactivació Badalona, the Gremio de Industrias
de la Confección de Barcelona and ACTE, a Conference by fashion
designer Modesto Lomba and the "Business
Meeting between designers and entrepreneurs" will be held on
7 July.![]()
The "Joaquim Mercader Competition for Young Fashion Designers"
finalist catwalk will take place on 8 July. Companies

From 28 to 30 April, took place the 3rd study visit
of the Eurotex ID project in Guimarães (Portugal),
with the participation of students from Winchester School of Art
(UK) and Cenatex School (Portugal). During the visit they
met some leading companies such as António Almeida & Filhos or
the Rafael Freitas fashion designer atelier.
Also, the first EUROTEX
ID NEWSLETTER is now available and includes updated information
on the project, the partners and the textile database.

On 8 July, CITTA
(Fundación Centro de Innovación y Tecnología del Textil
de Andalucia) will organise in Seville, a Meeting
on the major challenges for innovation in the textile industry.
The programme includes a debate on the impact of the REACH legislation
in the textile industry as well as on New Opportunities in Nanotechnology

On
17 June, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Catalonia Report
2009, realised thanks to the collaboration of Barcelona Provincial
Council, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, the Institute of Regional
and Metropolitan Studies of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona,
was presented. The report aims to assess the typical features of new
entrepreneurs and business start-ups in Catalonia and compare them
with other Spanish and foreign regions.

The TEXMEDIN project has launched the TEXMEDIN
Design Challenge: an educational experience addressed
to young fashion designers or stylists. To participate, young creatives must
produce a new fabric, garment, accessory or other item of design as a result
of a contemporary reinterpretation of the contents of the TEXMEDIN
Digital Library. The selected designers will have the
opportunity to attend training and coaching sessions at the Inspiring Lab
facilities. The deadline for the submission of project
works is 15 September.
The
“CrossTexNet” project, led by the Nord-Pas
de Calais region with the objective to foster cooperation of European
research in the field of innovative textiles, has launched its website
which includes detailed information on partners, objectives, activities and
calls of the project.![]()

the International Fashion Designers Contest GOLDEN
THREAD, organized by Lodz, designers can participate
in two different categories- première vision and prêt
à porter. The GOLDEN THREAD final gala with
the 20 selected finalists took place on 7 May, as one of the main events of
the FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland.![]()

The
ceremony of the European
Enterprise Awards 2010 organised by DG Enterprise, took
place on 31st May in Madrid. The awards aim to identify and reward
excellence among public authorities in promoting entrepreneurship and small
business at national, regional and local level, in categories such
as entrepreneurship promotion, investment in skills, improving business environment,
internationalisation of business and responsible and inclusive entrepreneurship.
On
the occasion of the European SME Week 2010, the European
Economic and Social Committee has adopted a report in which it lays
out different recommendations to guide actions to support SMEs in
adapting to global market changes. The recommendations cover among
others themes of interest, barriers to trade, the implementation of trade
competitiveness through quality, the networks and the possibilities of innovation.
The European Commission has published a report
that assesses the entrepreneurship education in different
European countries and proposes strategies to improve the teaching in order
to equip tomorrow's entrepreneurs with skills and knowledge to contribute
to economic prosperity.![]()
The 2nd High-Level Conference on "Industrial Competitiveness:
The role of policy and markets in difficult times" organized
by the European Commission on April 26, discussed policy options to overcome
the crisis in the industry and the importance of its competitiveness as one
of the pillars of sustainable economic growth and social development in Europe.

On 1st July, Belgium will take over the EU presidency.

2 July will take place in Brussels the conference Innovation
and Enterprise, the role of socio- economic players. Through a series
of roundtables, speakers from the world of business, high level researchers,
EESC members will have the opportunity to engage in discussion with the public.
The
objective of the RegioStars Awards is to identify good
practices in regional development and to highlight original and innovative
projects to stimulate the exchange of ideas which could be attractive and
inspiring to other regions. The deadline for receipt of
applications is 16 July.
The Committee of the Regions jointly with the European Commission, the EU
Council presidency "trio" and the Interact Programme, has launched
a European consultation on EU rules for cross-border cooperation.
The deadline to participe is 20 July.
The European Commission is launching a public
consultation on the future direction of EU trade policy that
will be open until 28 July 2010.
Contract notice for the assessment of the situation of the textile
and footwear sectors in the EU and prospects for their future development,
analyzing trends in research and innovation, restructuring, education and
training and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The deadline for applications
